How much does a clipping campaign cost?
CPM, cap per clip, number of clippers: a simple method and worked examples to set the budget for a clipping campaign, per view or per sale.
A clipping campaign costs what you pay clippers, plus the platform’s commission: on Skyroclip, a 10% fee on top of the budget. The right budget isn’t a fixed amount, it’s a calculation: what you want to get, multiplied by what you’re willing to pay for each unit of results, per 1,000 views or per sale.
Here’s the method, with examples.
What are you actually paying for?
A clipping campaign has two costs:
- What clippers earn, based on the rate you set: a price per 1,000 views (CPM) or a price per sale (CPA).
- The platform’s commission. On Skyroclip, a 10% fee is added on top of the budget and shown before you pay: with €1,000 for clippers, you pay €1,100.
No subscription, no setup fee: you pay for the results your clips get, up to the budget you funded.
How many views does a clipping budget buy?
views bought = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000
| Budget paid to clippers | CPM | Views funded |
|---|---|---|
| €300 | €1.00 | 300,000 |
| €1,000 | €1.50 | ≈ 667,000 |
| €5,000 | €2.00 | 2,500,000 |
These numbers are ceilings: you only pay for views actually tracked on approved clips. If the clips get fewer views, you spend less.
What CPM should you pay clippers?
CPM is a balancing act:
- too low, and few clippers join the campaign, with the most experienced ones going elsewhere;
- too high, and your budget runs out fast.
Raise your CPM when editing takes real work (polished subtitles, foreign-language content, stitching several segments together) or when your content is less “naturally” viral. Lower it when your content is very entertaining and easy to clip.
How do you stop one clip from eating your budget?
Minimum views per clip. Below it, the clip doesn’t pay. It stops you from funding hundreds of clips stuck at 200 views.
Cap per clip. Beyond it, the clip stops earning. With a €1.50 CPM and a €150 cap, a clip is paid up to 100,000 views. Without a cap, a single viral clip can soak up the whole budget, and you lose the variety of angles.
How much should you pay per sale?
In conversion mode, the question becomes: how much can you pay to get a customer?
price per sale ≤ what a customer brings you − your costs
Example. Your course costs €197 and leaves you a €150 margin. Paying €40 per sale leaves you €110 per customer. With an €800 budget, you fund 20 sales, and you only pay for real sales within the attribution window.
To attract clippers in per-sale mode, the price needs to be clear and motivating: a fixed amount per sale is understood instantly, while a percentage makes the clipper do the math.
What does a typical clipping budget look like?
| Goal | Mode | Example settings |
|---|---|---|
| Test clipping on a podcast | Views | €300, €1 CPM, 1,000-view minimum, €50 cap per clip |
| Launch a season or a product | Views | €2,000, €1.50 CPM, €150 cap per clip, 4 platforms |
| Sell an online offer | Sales, or views + sales | €1,000, €30 per sale, or €0.50 CPM + €20 per sale |
How do you know if the campaign was worth it?
At the end of the campaign, look at three numbers on your campaign page:
- the real cost per 1,000 views, fees included;
- the number of active clippers and approved clips: a campaign that attracts few of them often has a rate that’s too low;
- sales or signups if you’ve installed tracking.
Then compare that with what the same audience costs you in ads. Our guide on choosing between paying per view and per conversion will help you set up your next campaign.
In short
- Per-view budget: budget ÷ CPM × 1,000 = maximum views funded.
- Per-sale budget: a price per sale lower than what a customer brings you.
- Always set a minimum number of views and a cap per clip.
- On Skyroclip, the budget is capped, a 10% fee is added on top, and you only pay for real results.
Frequently asked questions
What's the minimum budget for a first clipping campaign?
There's no universal minimum. A budget of a few hundred euros is already enough to test hundreds of thousands of views at a CPM of around €1 to €2 per 1,000 views. What matters is that your rate is attractive enough for clippers to join the campaign.
Can I go over my budget?
No. On Skyroclip, the budget is funded upfront and caps the campaign: once it runs out, no more views or sales are paid.
Is Skyroclip's commission included in the budget?
No, it's added on top: you fund your budget for clippers, plus a 10% fee. With a €1,000 budget, you pay €1,100, and the full €1,000 goes to clippers.
Is it better to pay per view or per sale?
Per view if your goal is awareness or you have nothing to sell online; per sale if you know what a customer is worth. Our guide on payout models covers the choice in detail.
How do I calculate how many views my budget will buy?
Use budget ÷ CPM × 1,000. A €1,000 budget at a €1.50 CPM funds about 667,000 views, and you only pay for views tracked on approved clips.
What is a good CPM for a clipping campaign?
It's a balance: too low and few clippers join, too high and your budget runs out fast. Raise it when editing takes real work or your content is less naturally viral.
What is a cap per clip?
The amount beyond which a clip stops earning. With a €1.50 CPM and a €150 cap, a clip is paid up to 100,000 views, so a single viral clip can't soak up the whole budget.
Why set a minimum number of views per clip?
Below the minimum, a clip doesn't pay, so you don't fund hundreds of clips stuck at a few hundred views.
Are there subscription or setup fees for creators?
Not on Skyroclip: no subscription, no setup fee. You pay your budget plus the 10% fee, for results up to the budget you funded.
How do I know if my clipping campaign was worth the money?
Look at the real cost per 1,000 views fees included, the number of active clippers and approved clips, and sales or signups if you installed tracking. Then compare that with what the same audience costs you in ads.
